You have cleaned the house from top to bottom; floors, walls, cupboards and benches, but have you looked at your appliances recently. There are crumbs in your toaster, discolouring in your kettle, and dirty fingerprints all over your blender. These are all easy fixes, and will have your kitchen sparkling clean in no time.

    Toaster

    • Turn off the toaster and unplug it from the power point
    • The crumb tray needs to be cleaned regularly to avoid build up. Remove the crumb tray and wipe with a soft, damp cloth; ensure it is dry before correctly replacing the tray into the unit.
    • Hold the toaster over a sink or bin and shake the unit to remove any residual crumbs.
    • Wipe down the exterior of the toaster with a soft damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

    Kettle

    • Discolouration inside the kettle body is common; it is due to mineral deposits on the large surface area of the concealed element. It can be easily removed.
    • Kettle descaler is available from most leading supermarkets, department stores and hardware stores. Follow the instruction on the pack on how to properly use this cleaner.
    • Alternatively, fill the kettle with 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water (approximately 2/3 full) and allow to stand overnight
    • Discard the solution, fill the kettle with water and boil. Discard the boiled water and the kettle is now ready for normal use.
    • To remove any food or marks from the outside area of the kettle, wipe over with a soft, damp cloth and polished until dry.

    Blender / Bench Mixers

    • Assuming that the appliances have been generally cleaned after use, most stainless steel and plastic appliances can simply be wiped over with a soft, damp cloth to remove food splatters and greasy finger prints and then polished with a dry soft linen cloth.
