Microwaves are a must-have appliance for most Australian families. To ensure your microwave perform to its best and remains a hygienic way to cook or reheat, here are a couple of tips:

    • Ensure all food that is being heated or cooked is covered loosely with microwaveable plastic film to reduce splattering and mess.
    • Avoid explosions by ensuring covered containers allow built up steam to escape through vents and air holes.
    • Always switch the microwave oven off at the power outlet and remove the plug from the power outlet before cleaning.
    • Save on the extra effort later, clean up spills and mess straight after they occur.
    • Using a damp cloth, food splatters and spilt liquids can be easily cleaned from inside your microwave.
    • The outside surfaces of the microwave can also be wiped down with a damp cloth.  Do not allow any water to seep in the ventilation openings; as this could result in damage to the unit
    • The microwave door and door seals will need to be wiped down frequently with a damp cloth, build up can prevent the microwave from sealing properly
    • Occasionally, the glass turntable tray and roller ring should be removed for cleaning. Wash the glass turntable and roller ring in warm soapy water and rinse in clean water. Ensure they are dried thoroughly and correctly replaced in the unit before using of the microwave.
    • The microwave control panel can also be wiped down with a damp cloth
    • Over time, odours can develop in the microwave oven.  To remove these odours, combine a cup of water with the juice of one lemon in a deep microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 5 minutes. Remove the bowl and thoroughly wipe out the interior of the microwave.
