Ironing Temperature Guide
Using the correct temperature to iron out wrinkles can make the difference between easy glides and a permanent wardrobe malfunction. The right temperature makes ironing easier and faster, whilst the wrong temperature can lead to re-ironing over unintended creases or worse, leaving unwanted marks.
Most irons manufactured in the last 10 years are likely to have dials with temperature and/or fabric guides. We highly recommend refreshing your memory with the user manual that is included with the product to ensure the correct temperatures are matched correctly to fabrics.
As a rule of thumb, lower temperatures are suited to delicate fabrics, while thicker materials like linen will need hotter temperatures to smooth out lines.
Below is a guide to the correct temperatures paired with different fabrics:
- Acrylic, lycra/spandex and nylon: 135 °C
- Acetate: 143 °C
- Polyester, silk and wool: 148 °C
- Viscose/rayon: 190 °C
- Triacetate: 200 °C
- Cotton: 204 °C
- Linen: 230 °C
