With Christmas just around the corner and the Party Season in full swing, it’s dishes like these that make celebrations so special. While prawns may be more expensive than you would normally budget for, you can find regular specials , so snap them up when you can and freeze them until you are ready to cook with them. Once you thaw them, cook them as soon as possible.

Kataifi pastry is a Greek speciality and you can find it in larger supermarkets in the freezer section near filo. It is the same consistency as filo pastry but shredded -  looks like a bunch of straw, but simply tease it out. A little goes a long way – one packet of pastry will do for 20 prawns.

KATAIFI WRAPPED PRAWNS WITH LEMON GARLIC BUTTER

Serves 4 as a main meal or 6 as an entree

    INGREDIENTS

    • 20 large green prawns
    • 100g butter
    • 5 cloves garlic, finely chopped
    • Zest and juice of 2 lemons
    • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
    • 350g pack Kataifi pastry
    • A little oil spray

    DIRECTIONS

    1. To prepare the prawns, remove their heads and peel the shells away from the body, leaving the tail intact. Use a small sharp knife to slice along the back of each prawn, then de-vein them.
    2. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the finely chopped garlic and  lemon zest and sauté for 2 minutes until fragrant. Add the lemon juice and season with a little salt and pepper. Pour half the garlic butter over the prawns and toss thoroughly to coat the. Set the remaining butter sauce aside in a small bowl, ready to serve.
    3. Turn the air-chef on and preheat to 180°C. Line the base of the tray with a sheet of foil.
    4. Remove the pastry from the bag and gently tease out the strands.
    5. Remove a small bunch of about 1 tablespoons of pastry and lay it in a 15cm strand on the clean bench top. Place one butter and garlic-soaked prawn at one end of the pastry and roll it up to completely coat the prawn but leave the tail exposed. The buttery coating should help the pastry stick to the prawn. Repeat with remaining prawns and pastry.
    6. Spray the kataifi-wrapped prawns with some oil spray. Place the prawns in the air-fryer basket and set the timer to 10 minutes. When the timer bell goes off, open the air-fryer, and use long-handled tongs to move the prawns around to expose the undercooked parts. Return the basket to the airfryer and cook for a further 5 minutes. Move the prawns around again and cook for a final 5 minutes.
    7. Serve the hot and crunchy prawns on a large platter with a few salad leaves and wedges of lemon or lime near by. Have the butter close by so that everyone can serve themselves. Serve at once.

Wow what a wonderful machine. I can imagine it changing and improving the way I cook just about everything. I have my fingers crossed. The first thing I would cook would be Salmon En Papillotte.

I use a 30 year old mini deep fryer by Breville I inherited. It was a great machine in its day but I would love to upgrade to something more modern and more healthy.

I use a 30 year old mini deep fryer by Breville I inherited. It was a great machine in its day but I would love to upgrade to something more modern and more healthy. The first thing I would cook would be salmon cakes with homemade aioli.

Oh I have wanted one of these for ages, always looking for healthy ways to cook. Would love to try making healthy churros, not sure if they'd work but would love to give them a go.

I've recently lost 26kg eating better, my four children and husband are begging for their favourite treats this would allow me to give in to them, indulge a little myself and keep on my way to the new healthy me.

After reviewing many Dry-fryers this undoubtably is the best. To be able fulfil all my requirements and also cook a baked chicken with minimum oil in under 30mins is fabulous!

    • Rachel 17 November 2014

I am moving back to Australia from Mongolia, and have zero kitchen appliances. A dry-fryer would be a fun start!

    • Dragonfly 17 November 2014

This looks fabulous! With only one of the kids now at home I don't often bother with some of the meals that used to be family favourites and I'm sure I could teach him to use this to cook for me!

    • Monica 17 November 2014

Lovely recipe, this air fryer would make life so much easier!

My husband wants to cook everything using this machine. He brings it up every week or so, "lets get one". We have three kids and if he is willing to cook tea every night in a sustainable and healthy way I will be a very happy mummy.

After 40+ degree heat here at home, I would loooove an airfryer to keep making my favourite treats for my family without turning on the oven. First dish would be the prawns !!

I am living with a temporary kitchen and still have at least 6 months before I have a real kitchen! This would be perfect and I would start with a yummy roast chicken!

    • cheryl M 17 November 2014

I could think of dozens of items I could cook in the fabulous machine - I love the fact I could make "fired" food healthier ! My kids sweet potato fries - so I would lave to have a go making them in this !

    • Selina 17 November 2014

Wow! Love! Both my little ones are going through a 'must eat chicken schnitzel at least once a week or the whining gets so bad mum hides in the pantry with wine' phase. Would love to serve a healthier version!

    • Samara Whalley 17 November 2014

Id love to cook fresh fish and chips in it - we love catching our own fish and what healthier tastier way to eat and enjoy it then a Kambrook Air Chef!

    • Tracy 17 November 2014

Trying to reduce the saturated fat in my diet this would be a perfect way to get fried fish and chips without the mess, excess oil and a great taste to boot.

    • Amy 17 November 2014

Wow! I must admit I hadn't thought much of these machines reviews of many models are rather negative (or smoke filled!) but this sounds amazing!

    • Angel 17 November 2014

Kambrook’s Air Chef Air Frying Oven would be perfect addition to our kitchen because I only cook small dishes for our family of three. Spring Rolls will be the mostly likely dish that I’ll make the most.
