Produce in Season During Autumn
Buying produce in season means you are buying the freshest foods grown locally, at the best price possible. As we transition into autumn, it’s a good time to plan ahead for meal ideas or shake things up by experimenting with different recipes.
At the moment, figs, pears, plums, stone fruits, quinces and rhubarb are flourishing. You can also expect to see potato, pumpkin, eggplant, okra, squash and turnips in season (all the hearty vegies commonly seen in stews and roasts).
Have a specialty autumn recipe up your sleeve? Tell us about it in the comments section below! We’ve compiled some of our favourites here to help inspire you.
- Start the morning with a wholesome almond milk chia fig smoothie. Tip: once picked, figs ripen quickly so it is best used (or eaten fresh) fast!
- Ratatouille is great as a starter, or served with bread or couscous for something a little more substantial. It also makes for a flavoursome weekend brunch. Create a few hollow cavities into the dish, crack a few eggs throughout and cover with a lid. Gently steam for a few minutes for delicious baked runny eggs.
- A crowd pleaser, our crunchy chicken breast stuffed with roasted eggplant and pomegranate seeds will tantalise tastebuds
- For a light and nutritious midweek dinner, or lunchbox idea for the working population, try our brown rice with blue cheese and pear
- For the more adventurous palates, make the most of seasonal fruits by whipping up our pear tiramisu or Armenian cake
